671 People with Disabilities to Witness the Fire Carnival
Detaktangsel.com JAKARTA - The XVI Papua National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) Fire Carnival will be held between 2—5 November.
Papua Peparnas Fire Carnival is one of the most important events in every convention of the biggest sporting event for disabled athletes in the country.
Similar to that of the National Sports Week (PON), Peparnas fire carnival implies a strong message of warmth, solidarity, and sportsmanship.
The flame of the torch will be lit in Genyem Village and brought to Jayapura Regent’s Office.
Jayapura Mayor Benhur Tomi Mano stated that the series of events will be attended by hundreds of disabled residents of Jayapura City.
"Around 671 disabled people will witness the Peparnas fire procession. The city government will provide direct assistance to them," said Benhur at the Merdeka Barat 9 Forum (FMB 9) which took the theme Peparnas XVI: Equality and Achievement of Disabled People on Monday, 1 November.
According to Benhur, his party continued to promote equality for people with disabilities in Jayapura City, one of which is by providing aids in the forms of equipment and facility provisions in public service points.
These facilities include special lanes, equipment (wheelchairs), and supporting facilities in hotels. This effort is expected to facilitate disabled people’s mobilization in the city.
Peparnas XVI Papua will be held in Jayapura City and Jayapura Regency on 2—15 November.
Peparnas Papua will compete in 12 sports. No less than 1,985 athletes from 34 provinces will participate in the biggest sporting event for disabled athletes in the country.
